Default Radiator

I would like to service my radiator in my 79 before winter, but I am not sure how to do it. Can anyone walk me through it? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Doug

Thank you,

When was the last time you flushed the system and do you plan on driving it at all this winter?

At any local parts store you can get a tool that tests the coolant to tell you if it'll freeze or not as it is and if it's still good.

If it's okay, I would say flush it in the spring when you get the car back out for warm weather fun.

If you'll be driving it then go ahead and flush and fill.

It is a daily driver and I will be driving it probably every day this winter. Do I just remove the drain plug on the side and let it drain? How do I make sure it is clean before I refill it?

Unless you want to do a back flush, just fill it with hose water and drain it all again.

Then, fill with normal mixture of coolant and water.

Just follow the directions on the flush that you buy. Longest part of the job is waiting for the rad to empty, and your right just remove the plug have a container for the used antifreeze to collect.

If youre going to change to a different anti freeze you need to thoroughly flush the cooling system . Do not use a chemical flush. Drain the radiator, engine block and flush the system including the heater core to rid the system of any residue coolant. Use the proper amount of anti freeze and distilled water. The recommended anti freeze is a HOAT type used by Mercedes Benz ,Ford and Daimler Chrysler. Zerex G05 is one brand that meets the specs. You should change the coolant every 2 years thereafter.
