Default Front spoiler

The Vette I bought is missing the front spoiler.. It's pretty evident it got ripped off (not stolen)

In any event, should I replace it? It looks fine without it.. The only thing is there are the two holes in the front fenders where it was obviously secured. If I do not replace it, is there an an easy way to patch/hide the holes?

It's a 1979 btw.. Thanks.

Sorry... I think this should have been in general, not performance..

I'd replace it. Without it, not only do you put less air thru the rad, but more air ends up below the engine compartment, where it increases pressure, making it harder for what air does go thru the rad to escape.

Cool.. (no pun).. Thank you.. Maybe this post belongs in the performance area after all..

I guess I will start searching for one.

They're available through all the vendors. When I replaced the chin spoiler on my 77 (same problem you have), I saw about a 10* drop on the coolant temp gauge. It shovels a LOT of air to the radiator.

That is good to know.. Here I thought it was for looks.. Nice to know that form follows function, or visa versa in this case..

FYI, the factory Pace Car type aero package isn't all about cosmetics either, as it reduces the coefficient of drag by about 15%.

Next step is a Pace Car chin spoiler.

Bat, if you go with the rather soft original type (the only one with a full rad baffle, BTW) just be aware that you'll probably need to come up with a brace/support for the center of the dam if you go over about 80mph very often. Still trying to work out the best method myself, but I'm not giving up. May fab up a splitter to put under it...

Also, I'm not sure I'd do just the front. Balance...

She's gonna get an 80-82 rear bumper cover someday. I don't like the 74-79 rear bumper, it just kinda falls away IMHO.

As stated in the other post, you DO need the air dam. In 1979 the L-82 w/AC came with a large ugly piece of rubber riveted to the bottom of a regular air dam for more cooling..............LT

The 74-79 tail certainly wasn't one of the sharks most appealing features it ever wore...

I knew that flap was available at the dealer parts counter, but I didn't know that it was ever installed on the line.

Some alu angle to stiffen so top 2" is solid bottom 2" is stiff but flexible

It was bubba's idea (He lives down the street form me)

BTW, I've actually thought about using that stuff as skirt material below the rockers, but want to do some string tests first to make sure I wouldn't be trapping air under rather than fencing it out...

Sure did. It even shows it in the 79 assembly manual. I took my spoiler off and put the smaller one on for looks. That rubber piece looks ugly................LT

I saw a similar drop in coolant temps (10 to 15 deg) when I put the front Pace Car type spoiler on my '78.

I think side skirts would work when combined with a front splitter. Do you still have your spare tire installed SkunkWorks? If not then I think a rear difuser is also needed. The spare tire cover kindof acts like one but only a little. I agree with the comments about the back end of the '74-'79 cars. That is why mine has the '80-'82 bumper cover on it.

I was thinking about a sharks mouth on lower front like on that Curtis P-40 Warhawk in your avitar

BTW that airdam is Super effective at shoving air through the rad... I banged it on the left front pull'in in to get an Ice cream cone this year...

Not lacking any intimidation factor there.

No spare, currently, but I'd like to come up with something between this...

and this...

Can you just imagine looking over your shoulder and seeing that coming at you, guns blazing!?! I always wanted to paint that on the nose of a formula car, but another guy I was racing beat me to it and I didn't want to copy. Done right, it should look right at home on a C3. Can I call dibs?

I dig the Thunder racing corvette. That is a pretty cool looking car.
