SOmeone told me they need to have the chrome ground off where they seat up with the gaskets. Anyone heard of that? Ive had leaks ever since I put on the chrome Edelbrocks.
Never heard that one, I have run several types of chrome covers, rocker, oil pan, timing cover and didn't have a leak problem. Just use high quality gaskets and don't over tighten
I've had two different pairs of chrome valve covers on my 74 and neither one leaked for that reason. I have however had problems with them sealing due to interference. The lower lip of the valve covers (both pairs) were hitting the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. A little grinding of the lip and they sealed well. This may be just something unique to my car but I would check to make sure that any replacement valvecover seats properly on the head and doesn't have interference problems.
i running chrome AC delco covers i bought from summitt but they are available elsewhere including GM dealers, they don't leak. do you have the little "wing" things that go under the bolts??these help spread the bolt pressure over a wider area. i bought a set of chrome ones and some fancy tall type hold down bolt/stud package with the "bowtie" in the top. i would tighten them down only to find them loose after about 200 miles,so i removed them and replaced them with the stock original type, only in stainless steel. the tall fancy ones looked good but stuck up and got in the way.the main thing is to use a good gasket, get both surfaces clean, and to NOT overtighten the bolts down.
