Has anyone had experience installing a cam with more lift and duration in a late model computer controlled car such as the 1982? I'm looking for a little lope at idle but I've read that can cause a problem if the computer is used. If there is a "computer cam" out there that will give good sound in an otherwise stock '82 I'd love to hear about it.
I called crane cams hot line and was told 214 duration and 442 on lift was what their tech staff used without computer issues. I don't remember the cam part#, you'll have to call them. Hope this helps
Put a 2040 Crane Compucam in the wifes 82 a couple of years ago along with Edel heads.Nice inprovement performance wise. Not to much problem with stock ecm. Runs better with tuned 7747.

I've tried to research the computer problem as well. . .
But to no avail. . .
I've put my stock intake on a block that I have built up from a salvage yard. . .I got my cam from a swap meet, but I lost the stats paper. . .
I do remember that the lift is 512, and the duration not being too far behind. . .
I just dropped the motor in today and I'm pretty close to crankin' it. . .
I am a little worried how the computer will handle it. . .
I've been told I may need a stall converter as well. . .
Or if the intake will even be able to feed that cam. . .
but If it doesn't, I'm researching the X-ram manifold replacement and higher flow injecters. . .
And a prom. . .
Eventually I'm gonna end up getting another intake. . .
Hey Ken, I thought you was selling the vette? Changed your mind and desided to change the cam too?
It was one of those weak moments. I would still part with it if the price is right, but I'm sure I'll continue tinkering with it as long as it's fun. BTW, I thought cruisin' the coast in Gulfport was a blast. Lots of nice cars, not only Vettes. Next year I'll go earlier and stay later. The only downside was I dropped an alternator belt as soon as I hit the coast road. Thank goodness for an AutoZone nearby. 30 minutes and $9.00 later I was on the road again.
