Finally, got the block, heads, and crank back from the machine shop yesterday and started putting her back together around 1:00 today. If all goes well, everything should be buttoned up by the weekend!!
Looks like you will have some SERIOUS compression ratio there with the domes and the 186 Heads. Hope your cam is big, my 1970 LT-1 dosen't care much for our 91 octane "premium" fuel in California. I need to add booster or 20% racegas to allow 34-6 degrees of total timing in my Vette.
Solid LT1.............Other than being 30 over, the pistons are stock replacements (L46 350/350.) As such, the compression ratio is 11:1. To eliminate pinging, I add one gallon of race gas (octane 110) to 15 gallons of 92 non-oxygenated unleaded. I'll set the total timing at 36 degrees and back off from there, if needed.
Solid LT1.............I think your ratio of 20% race fuel is correct. By adding three gallons of 110 to 13 gallons of 92, the overall octane rating bumps to 94.5. Because of worn cylinder walls (hence lower compression ratios) before the rebuild, I'm guessing that the one gallon of 110 to 15 gallons of 92 was sufficient. If memory serves me correctly, GM recommended gas with an octane rating of 95 or better for the L46 & LT1.
It looks like a crime seen. The title is a little twisted but it got my attenshion.
