I just ordered some of the special oyster colored dye off a corvette parts website. Was wondering if anyone has used this and how it worked for them. Does it go on leather, plastic? does it work best if primer is used first? also i plan on painting my black console this week. What type of paint would be best for this and do i use primer? Also was wondering what cheap alternatives i could use for insulation i could put down before the carpet. Is it important that i do?
I've purchased carpet/vinyl dye at an automotive paint store and used it several times. I re-dyed the ivory seats of a 1968 XKE and it worked great. I just re-dyed the black carpet in my '72 vette, and touched-up the door panels, lower edges of the console, and seats. You should not have a problem.
Before you paint your console you might want to try McGuairs (spelling?)
plastic polish. I dont know how bad yours is but their products do a good job of removing scratchs. If you bought a carpet kit it should come with a padding however some of the home depot type stores have foil type insulations that will help with heat transfer.
Good luck
I have used the dye on leather seats and several vinyl interior pieces and found it to work great. I was surpised it worked that good. did'nt use primer as I was putting it on same color.
