Trying to figure out the last parts i need to complete the technical build up of my car, i'm going over some things again.
One of these things was the valve train. I have 1.550" springs with 220 pounds closed and 500 open, so heavy springs. I used crane aluminum roller rockers with them, but I noticed that the pushrods are not straigth up through my Dart pro 1 215 heads. The intake pushrods almost hit the head in the passage and thus the rockers is angled at the valve. This is far from ideal, but my question is if it will hurt, because if it does, i will need to go the shaft rocker route and thus $$$$...
Some sources including some on the dart board say it won't, but....
Should you use hardened pushrods and guideplates with those heads?
What ratio for the rockers?
If you have something setup wrong or wrong size, it should be viseable when you turn the engine over while inspecting each Valve for anykind interference. The Roller tip should be centered on the valve stem, mark the stem, the trace should be thin and sweep the middle. The roller shouldnt get close to rolling off the stem inboard or outboard. equal distance . If the roller moves like that, it should be the right length Pushrod. If the pushrod doesnt contact the head or rocker arm it should be Ok , Theres no actual interference, its just Close. Guide plates are important if you dont Have self guided rocker Arms..Double check your requrements for the Valve train.
Not a big deal. What is going on is that the valves are not placed in the same position as stock heads. My Dart 227cc also have a very big pushrod angle. I even considered going with offset lifters and or offset rockers.
My setup has never had valve train problems even with my latest .685/.714 lift cam
sounds like your pushrods are being angled outwards from the hi spring pressure. at hi rpm the rod can spit out so i would put in a set of guide plates to suit your pushrods . dont get the stepped up Z style guideplates , get the flat ones. i had the Z style originally and they contacted my crane roller rockers under the arm .
Yves, you can take a look here.
I had a similar problem with a set of RHS heads and Comp roller tips and got quite a few replys.
Hope it helps you some.
