Default 80 Diff carrier bushing install?

Hello, I have an 80 Corvette and I have some Prothane diff carrier bushings to install. The kit didn't come with instructions and I called Prothane to see if they could tell me if the "shells" need to be removed or not for installation. The tech told me that since they don't have instructions, that basically I'm on my own. Does anyone know if the shells need to be removed or not? Thanks

That prothane response 'The tech told me that since they don't have instructions, that basically I'm on my own' is pizz-poor & they should be ashamed for leaving you with no answer.

Sorry prothane didn't answer you ... sorry I can't either.

The difference here is where prothane designs manufactures & markets their bushing & I don't.

Anytime I get a response from a supplier like what you got from prothane ... that supplier goes to bottom of my list.

Oh, I agree with you 110%. I ordered the bushings from Ecklers. I didn't know who the manufacturer was. The rest of the bushings on my car are Energy.

Yes, the shells need to be removed. It's easiest done by either cutting a sli in the shell or griding one with a die grinder and then using a stake or punch to collapse the sleeve inward. After you get the sleeve you you'll notice only one side of the barwing is chamfered. This is because the sleeve/bushing is pressed in from that side. However your urethane ones are 2pc. You will have to chamfer the other side also to be able to install the bushings without having to wrestle them in.

Thank you for the info! Now how hard would it be for Prothane to include that information with the kit? Should I use any grease for the install? Thanks again!
