Default Removing Smog pump

Ok here is the deal, all my experence with restoring cars has been with model A fords, so im at a loss when it comes to emmision controll stuff. I am installing a dual exaust kit on my 1980 from Corvette Central. It comes with headers, with no provision for the smog pump. There are several hoses comming from the carb to the smog pump, and i was wondering what to do with them after i remove it. Im not worried about emission inspection because im up in Michigan, where they dont care. If anyone has done this on their car any help would be appreacated.

Just plug the hoses at the carb that are no longer used. You will need a couple new bolts for the water pump because they have very long ones that go thru brackets you no longer need. You might run into a bracket issue with the AC and header on the right calling for a spacer and a stud or longer bolt.

The funny thing is, we'll be going crazy trying to find that stuff in 10 years What do you do to the trans cross member to fit dual exhaust on an 80 vette?

The Corvette Central dual exhaust design bends the drivers side pipe around to the passenger side and both the passenger side and driver side use the "factory cutout" already in the cross member. It's kind of tight but can be done. I had custom-made duals put on my car and they basically copied the Corvette Central (or Mid-America) design. Works fine.

Word is the Corvette Central system doesn't fit very well. A modification to cut and weld in a Dent on the drivers side will look and work better

I took all the smog equipement off of my 1980 L48 and from what I can remember I reused all the old bolts. I also took off the EGR valve and made a metal plate with a gasket to cover the holes in the intake.

I just did this to my '80 in August. I had te exhaust system built by a local shop with 2.5" pipe. Yes it does work well routing the left side to the right. If the shop is good it will look very stock from the rear.

I changed the waterneck to eliminate all of the vacume conections and had to install shorter bolts on the right side of the water pump to make up the removal of the air pump bracket. Also purchased some vacume caps to cap off any unused ports on the carb.

Ver easy to do once the exhaust is installed and works well
