'72, suspect ignition or transmission problem
I just bought a '72 with a 350.
At about 60mph (auto trans) the engine seems to start and stop (hard enough to be a worry) and it won't run at freeway speed without this irritating surging. Stop and start moving again and it's fine up to about 55mph.
I suspect something with the transmission or maybe an ignition anomaly (but since it's fine at all RPMs at lower speeds in different gears, that probably isn't the case.
As somewhat of an aside:
On the test drive before buying it I noticed that the Tach was not connected and that the ignition coil and distributor were both aftermarket Accel units. The tach hookup on the distributor was not connected to anything and I suspect that if I just find the wire to the factory tach and hook it up it should work. Do we need tach adapters?
