Appears 16" wheels and tires are out of my budget. What is available in 15" where a spacer is not required? From previous posts I gather TT 2's in 15" require a spacer. Please confirm. My next choice would probably be the AR136. Someone mentioned they wish they would have purchased chrome since the polished were difficult to clean up. I do not see that they are available in chrome. Someone confirm. Also can I assume I will save some weight over the ralley's if I go with AR136's? I am open to any other 15" spoke type wheels that will work without spacers. Thanks in advance for your help.
I have EagleAlloys Series 117. You can get them in alum, polished or chrome. I'm the one who said, "go with chrome". I never take my car in the riain and they're still a pain to polish, chrome you can just wax. I paid $107/wheel, so shop around.
OK, I got the AR-136's. They are only available polished. Size is 15x8 with 3.75" backspacing. About 1/4" of caliper clearance.
Cost out the door was $600 for rims, center caps, lug nuts, locks, mounting the tires off my ralleys, balancing, chrome stems, and TAX.
Not to hard to keep clean. I just wash them when I wash the car and then dry very well with a chamois to avoid spotting. Will probably polish themup nice this winter with some Mothers but I haven't seen any difference using it yet.
Other than price, what is the real difference between the Cragar SS wheels and the A/R Torque Thrust wheels? The Cragars are chrome plated steel and the A/Rs are aluminum. Does the weight difference really matter in a non-racing vette? Will the Cragars rust if the chrome chips away? How durable are the Cragars because they cost quite a bit less than the A/R Torque Thrust wheels? My personal favorite is the Torque Thrust "Bullit" wheels with the grey center.
Years ago, I used to be a huge Cragar fan. Since then, I've owned 2 sets (8 Wheels) of SS/Ts (Street Super Tricks, look kinda like classic Centerlines). One set is on my '77 Camaro the other WAS on my '85 Camaro. Once I put the Cragars on the '85 Camaro, it never rode as smooth as it did with the OEM wheels.
Some people may disagree but I think Cragars have quality problems. They don't seem to be as popular as they once were so I don't know if their quality has improved. On the first set that I bought, one wheel had visible runout problems and it could not be balanced.
S/S are great looking wheels, especially on a '57 Chevy or a '60 or '70 Musclecar. Regardless - if I was in the market for wheels, I'd probably pass on Cragars.
2. Unilug design. Instead of a hole, it is a slot so it will fit different bolt circles. Might be hard to get actually true with that setup.
Yep, (I didn't know if the S/S had the unilug slots). The SS/T had the unilug design which I never did like. I think it prevented the wheel from accurately centering on the axle/spindle.
Hey Les, how long have you had your wheels? I understand the steel versions are no longer available. Wonder why?
Thanks it's nice to get compliments guys, especially from owners of vettes as nice as your's

I bought them several years ago, probably not too long after they started making them if my memory serves me correctly. I saw them on a black 70 El Camino & knew I had to have them- my Vette was black at the time....but I haven't followed the line since then, so I didn't even know they stopped making the steel version.
