Stock C3 rotors are 11.75 dia x 1.25 t. They weigh about 17-18 lbs. If you go to a two piece rotor you will need a spot caliper for an E-brake. I suppose you could save 4 or 5lbs with a lot of work and expense. The rear suspension with wheel and tire is north of 100lbs. Commonly held opinion is only the most discerning driver could notice a 10% reduction in weight.
I gutted out all the parking brake crap years ago as a weight savings. It never really would save you in an emergency and when "auto " equiped you have park to hold you in place. now with a manual tranny I just leave it in gear.
Hey, I have an idea. Let me send you some hole saws and you can start putting holes in whatever is needed. This should lighten things up.
Man you are getting serious about losing weight on the car. I'm sure there are lighter weight rotors out there. I'm not much help on that.
What is the current weight now?
Gordon, weight is still aound the same (2.750/2.780lbs) but i'm preparing a few further mods to drop it (e-brake disposal, new rear rotors, custom rad support, front end alu support, alu driver seat support...and by the way i've got rid of the passenger seat and here i got two pigeons with one bullet ).
New mods get more and more expensive the further you go now.
When i get all these mods put together i'll put the car on the scale again and will post the weight sheet...give me a month or so

I've drop about 20% weight already from stock weight on my '77, believe me it's very noticeable indeed...it was even when the weight savings were half anyway.
It all depends on how you drive your car and where. If you cruise sweetly around and dont pay much attention on your car performance (i mean in detail...) probably you won't discern much but if you like to notice every reaction, going quick on fast bends you'll notice every 50 lbs you've dropped...
Exactly which superlight are you using on the front?
Do your front tires lock up first? My rear tires have always locked up first.
I would ask Keith at Corvette engineering for a quote. I'm going for bigger 13 X 1.250 inch front disks Stock is 11.75 X 1.250 inch
I have the alu willwood calipers front and rear and drilled and vented rotors front, dont know the brand though, i've bought them time ago...
Rear lock first, front is very accurate, overall i have a very good stopping force and believe i dont need larger brakes, with about 800lbs weight missing, you automatically upgrade not only the acceleration but also the stopping capacity AND accurancy, by far.
Furthermore, Hydroboost sistem is an absolute must.

Read my post again, I stand by my comment. I was talking about a 10% reduction in weight of the suspension components, not the car!

sorry
Well you would not notice 10% reduction weight on the suspension components only BUT 10% on suspensions plus many other 10%'s here and there and you'll start noticing weight reduction indeed...reducing weight (unsprung and not unsprung) is like a pension that you invest week by week, at the end of sometime you have a certain amount to spend, even if the amount of each 'contribution' is nearly nihil.

Same for weight savings...
What about weight out of the fiberglasss body or the windows.
I think Duntov was able to pull quite a bit of extra weight off
the body of the grand sports.

I have no windows, empty doors and lexan windshield...each door had more then 30lbs weight each beetwin power windows motor, ancillaries and a very heavy steel bar that was intended to be a side protection... but that in reality couldnt protect anything in case of a side crash.
lighter FG, i've been longly looking for lighter/thinner FG but up to now with no results whatsoever.
