Default Torque Requirements

I'm installing a rear spring, shocks and structs, on an 81' Vette. Does anyone out there know the correct torque requirements for the following:

- rear spring center plate, 3 bolt type
- rear spring mounting bolts, 1 each side
- rear struct bracket, 4 bolts
- rear structs
- rear shocks

Thanks for the help,
Kade

I'm not sure what you mean by "3 bolt" - the spring is bolted to the diff cover by 4 bolts... Those bolts are 70 ft lbs and should only be tightened when the weight of the car is on the tires.

The spring end bolts aren't torqued - set ride height and insert cotter pin.

Strut bracket is 45 ft lbs

Rear shock/strut mount is 75 ft plus line up cotter pin (also tighten when car is sitting).

I don't know the inner strut rod torque - I have Smart Struts...

Rear shock is 50 ft upper, 35 ft lower. Sneak up on the upper bolt - I've had one strip at 50 ft.

Edit: I'm an idiot - an '81 might be different - my values are for the earlier setup.
I just checked the Vette Brakes site and they say their values are through '82
so they're probably right. Check out their page:

http://www.vbandp.com/instructions/h...specsR0102.htm

They differ slightly on some - I looked at their values and the GM values and
compromised...
