If you're gonna go for the gold, you might as well do it with spirit fingers.

I vote for 383. I have a ZZ4, great engine, runs like a clock but it's a pig. I ended up replacing the heads and cam to make it go down the road better. Cost me allot more $$ in the long run. I was in the same position as you and made the wrong choice for my needs.

If you don't care about matching numbers just take the block it's a 4 bolt right? Make it what you want a forged 383ci rotating assy can be had relatively cheap and you can make it the exact compression you want put a Vortec topend on it with and RPM Airgap and your cam of choice with the carb you want. 500 hp and comprable TQ is attainable. Just be ready with the trans and the rear they might wanna go boom if not up to the task.

Hell you can build a 396 these days out of a SBC 350

TG, I have a ZZ4 as well, not installed yet. I got it for a deal, around $2600. What exactly did you do to yours and what power/torque increases, and how much$$. I might be interested in mods before I install the motor??? Not to hijack the thread, you can PM me if you want.

Thanks!

You can't beat cubes, I'd probably go with a 383 if I had to do it over again. Having said that, my modified ZZ4 (GM's Hot Cam, Manley race-flow valves and springs) isn't doing too bad however. Last time at dyno I got 328 RWHP, and it runs in the 12's.
