I have 77 that I bought with a TH350 rebuilt from Ammco with stripped theads and all (Bastards). I would like to go with a 200r4 tranny because I like the gears and fitment, But I'm also running a 1990/1991 aftermarket Accel Corvette TPI system that needs a VSS, I emailed Bowtie about this and got a strange responce. The 200r4 has no provisions for a VSS? Please correct me If I'm wrong but do I need to go to a electronic speedometer? Thank you.
You might have to have your chip reflashed to accept a non VSS transmission. The transmission will work fine without VSS so just connect it and drive. Just don't connect it. However, the computer will see no transmission so flashing might be needed instead of a different speedo.
I can only speak to a stockish speed density setup 1227730 computer on a TPI, any chip I used required the vech speed input, so I bought a 4000 ppm sender which screwed into my stock mechanical speedo unit, and was exterior to the tranny, for the initial 700 install years ago, last year I transferred that same unit over to the 200 4r install I did, no problem....
due to the extra length, I also re routed the speedo cable to the inside of the florboards and under the carpeting, drilled a 3/8 hole for it to poke through and into the sending unit, this simplified the install a hell of a lot, and being as the cable is under the carpet/padding it's fine...

I enjoy reading your post and responces on this forum because we are doing (or you have already done) alot of the same things I am doing. I'm a bit confused as to the vech speed unit, can you still attach the stock speedo cable to it? I think I have got to figure out a way to use my stock cable with a VSS incorperated into it. I was hopeing this would work for a 200r4 http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Thanks.

Yeh, that's the unit I have in my setup, with the 700 and now with the 200 4r, same unit, i'ts fine, just install, hook up the purple/yellow wires to the computer, and drill you hole through the floorboard in the correct spot, I left the cable end off on the tranny side, and secured the cable outer shroud with a dap of glue, same in the curve somewhere under the floor padding,.....been that way for some ten years for the 700, and now for allmost a year for the 200 4r.....IF you really concerned for dirt, just wrap some tape around the shroud/speedo sender threads/and secure with tie wraps....whoopie doo....
I cry at that price though, I thought I got royally screwed at 80 bux, same unit ten years ago....102 is higher than a cats' back...
