Hi guys,
my headlights have been getting yellow for a while now. Even though I have silvania bulbs in them, it still isnt that bright. I used Plastic X on them and it did help, but there is still a cloudiness to them. What have you guys used to clear up your headlights? Is there anything to watch out for when buying a "kit" for this problem? Before/after pics are appreciated if you have them. P.S. - They are the crappy plastic lights
Do you mean they are yellow because they are dim old technology lights? Or do you mean there is some plastic part that has turned yellow? You have a C6 logo....
Dim lights can be fixed by relays (changes in wiring) or an H4 halogen bulb conversion.
Does the below quote apply to late '70's corvettes?
Many owners of Ford cars and trucks, built in the '60's and '70's, especially with the four headlight systems, are familiar with the headlights flashing OFF and ON. (Like erratic Morse Code, after driving awhile on High Beams.) The problem occurred because the circuit breaker in the headlight switch was weak. Simply installing H-4's in most of our older cars and trucks will result with the same effect known to old Fords. (The circuit breakers in original factory headlight switches cannot handle the extra current draw of the more powerful headlights.)
toothpaste is slightly abrasive, like a buffing compound, its why it cleans and whitens your teeth. If they have started to turn yellow to be honst the only real way to fix them will probally be to replace them.
There is a way to fix them..But here's the kicker. I was working at an industrial complex in Oxnard, Ca repairing a telephone line for a company that does only that.. They have a whole chemical process for it and the guy said he does work for the original manufaturers of those lenses. The only problem is I can't remember exactly where he was or what the name of the company was.... Sorry. The only thing that I could think to do is to start doing some internet searching and you may find it.
The local Advance Auto parts sell a kit, has some pads with compound on them, you can put them in a drill, wet the pads and buff. About $12 if I remember.
I'm not sure though how you have plastic headlights in a C3 ???
