Default no lighting behind dash...help?

I am not getting any illumination behind my speedo, tach, and center guages. All gages are functioning, and circuit boards look fine....any ideas would be apprecdiated.

Default It's annoying to drive at night!

I have the exact same problem that you have on my '80. Let's wait and see if someone can shed some "light" on us!

I have no ideal what year car you have. But if you have a dimmer on the headlight switch its probably the coil in front that controls that function that is broken. Once the coil breaks you illumination will not work.

The headlight switch is the VERY FIRST part of the diagnostic chain here.

Interesting. My 1974 is also all dark and I presumed the bulbs where out.
Those are a little hard to get at so I have not checket yet.
So it's probably the switch.
Great info

On my '68, the lights normally do not come on until I turn the dimmer all the way till it clicks, then back it back off. Would that be coil too?

Yes. Where the coil is broken determines when the lights go on. Example if its at the beginning...you will get some dimmer function. If its at the end you need to turn the **** until it gets pasted the broken point. My guess is your coil is broken just before the full on position.

Another thing if you are noticing your lights are getting dimmer but still work it means the coil is burning out and getting thinner.

Cheap part. Ecklers has it about $19. Or the whole switch for i think $59.

This part. You can't see the coil. its on the otherside.

Maybe it's just a blown fuse? My 81 did that a few months ago and it scared the crap outta me. Checked under the dash and the fuse was burned through. Put a new one in and it's been fine since.

I'd check that before ripping anything else apart.

I bet it's just that.

My searchFu must be getting weak. I only see the whole part at ecklars, or the Headlight Dimmer Switch, but it does not look like the one you put up a pic of.

Check the small instrument fuse first.

What year is the car? I'll tell you right where it is if it's got the blade style fuses.

Top of fuse block, all the way on the left. It'll say 7.5 on it.

Both of you before you go throught he hassle of changing the switch you should test to see if the switch in fact is not working.
To Test-put a test light on the "inst. light fuse"(check both sides of fuse to be safe)-pull headlight switch out-rotate **** both ways and watch the test light-If it lights up and dims and brightens as you rotate the **** then it is not bad.If it tests OK then you have a wiring problem not a headlight switch problem.

Default No Dashboard Lights

I have the same problem that is being described here on my 1917. I have to get across the fuse yet to see if that is the problem. If not is there a thread that describes how to get to the replacement part that is mentioned here.

Any info will help.

Thanks

I meant 1971

Are you referring to the headlight switch or the dimmer switches that are not related to the dash light problem?
