Suggestions on a/c repair

Getting ready to repair/replace a/c unit on my 74. Unit has been open for (?) years. Plan on replacing VIR/Compressor hoses/new wiring harness/all switches/relays and compressor. Hoping condensor and evaporator are ok. Question: Should I flush system before dismantling or afterwards and how is this done. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Doesn't sound like there will be much left to flush. Are you replacing the drier and orifice tube too. Converting to R134? I recommend doing both.

I would check into the posibility of upgrading to a newer system. The VIR systems don't work well with R134 and R12 is very expensive.

I was concerned mostly about flushing condensor and evaporator. Don't see a drier on diagrams or car. Understand there is a drier element in VIR. Thanks
