Default carburator ?

I have a 77 vette with a L-48 am planning on getting the motor rebuilt. I can't decide whether to get the original quadrajet rebuilt or buy an aftermarket carb. Need some input thanks..

When rebuilt by someone who knows them, and tuned properly, the Q-jet is a very good carb. If you want something simple that runs great on a 350 right out of the box, get an Edelbrock 1406 or 1407, depending on if you want electric or manual choke. I don't know much about Holley but someone will suggest one for you.

ditto with Durango...the Q-jet is nice card when tuned, I'm going to go with the edlebrock 600CFM... I owned one before and really enjoyed the simplicity of the thing.

The Q-Jet is a great carburetor, I miss the fuel economy of it. It even did ok on top of my 400+hp stroker. I picked up a phenomenal amount of power with my Mighty Demon, but on a stock or mildly built engine I would definitely stick with a Q-Jet. You won't feel any significant performance improvement with an aftermarket carb on your L48, just a decrease in gas mileage, and it probably won't have the streetability of a Q-Jet.

Default Holley spreadbore

After spending a ton of money getting my quadrajet rebuilt and still not being pleased I replaced it with the Holley spreadbore. This is a 1980 so I had to remove the EGR. Runs great Idles perfect.
Good luck

Default Q-jet

I tried a 600 holley and was not satisfied and was worse on fuel so I replaced with a rebuilt 750 q-jet and it was easy to set up and works great

I would junk the carb and convert to fuel injection. If you do keep the carb, keep the Q-jet and have it built by Lars.

granted my q-jet was probably not tuned very well, but when I put a holley 600 on it I got better economy and power

1406 Edelbrock
not intended to hijack but....
I might add I have a complete stock manifold, Q-jet carb, smog pump w/brackets, 2 sets of stock header type exhaust manifolds w/AIR tubes, dist, dist shrouding, stock air cleaner and cold air intake sitting on my shelf.

The Q-J or a square bore carb like a Holley 600 will work w/ the 2101 Performer or Weiand Action+. There is more than 1 2101 & the previous one is best which has the Edelbrock logo directly behind the thermostat housing on the valley cover, rather than on the passenger side runner as on the current design.
Really you need more cam than the L-48 cam & better ex. if single ex. more than a different carb if your Q-J is working properly.
