Default Floppy sun visors

Please give suggestions to cure this. I have just fought with replacing the pair and they won't stay up they just flop down. Is there some type of tensioning. 78'

I would guess the board IN the visors has broken down, or the clips that hold onto the visor rod have worn to the breaking point.

You just need new visors. The rods are probably fine, and can be reused when you buy new visors.

Default Visors

Thanks Durango These are the new visors on the old rods. They have nothing to keep them tight on the rod. I cut open the old ones to see the workings and only found a metal chamber the rod slides into. No type of crimp or adjustment. ????? I am probably not doing something right.

I don't know how they compare to the ones in my '68, but here's what I did:

Remove the visors and take the mounts out of them - on the '68 (IIRC) they're about 4" long, don't go all the way through the visors.

Wrap a clean rag, newspapers, etc around the visor to keep from marring.

Put the visor in a vice and give a good squeeze, it puts a little tension on the visors. Worked for me, worth a try before you buy a new set.

Thanks Poppa. I tried to pinch the chamber down with a pair of pliers but could not get a good bite. The vise jaws might be the next solution.
By the way I removed one of the rods and it was tough to get back in because you can not re use the star washer on top of the spring in the rod holder.

Good luck with the vise method. Sounds like it's a good shot.

Oh, a little gun oil on the shaft really helps with getting them on when they are tight again, and it keeps them from binding up in the future from metal to metal contact..

More than happy to pay back a little of the humongus amount of tips and knowledge I've got from the CF group

That's what the forum is all about.
