Default Tachometer output line from distributor

Anyone know if the capacitor in the tach line is required? My 1980 has a capacitor mounted on the mainfold, in the line from the distribtor tach output. The service manual doesn't show this. I don't think it's for radio intferrence because it's in line. Any help. Thank Jamiej

It does require a tach signal filter.

I recently replaced the tach filter on my '80. I asked the local Corvette shop if it is really necessary and he stated that I could cause damage to my electronic tach without it. I purchased a unit from Ecklers that is a lot cheaper than the OEM replacement version.

Do you have any pictures of the capacitor inline with the tach?

Just for the record. The "filter" is an RC circuit, not a cap.
