Paging Jim Shea (Power steering ???)

As you know I installed a late model 88 Corvette pump on my 78 and now it seems to have pushed the Control valve to its limits. Can I rebuild this fairly easy with one of those kits? Are is it just better to by the reman. valve? It's puking fluid pretty bad. I thought it was the cylinder at first or a hose, but I'm pretty sure it's the valve.

I know that quite a few owners have rebuilt their valves. The Chevrolet shop manuals have a section on rebuilding the valve. Zip Products has a pretty good description on rebuilding the valve at: http://www.zip-corvette.com/techniclfs.htm.
I just scanned and sent the Chevrolet shop manual instructions along with a cutaway of the valve showing the oil seals to Terry Rudy for posting at http://www.corvettefaq.com. Terry is quite prompt in posting information. It will be five pages entitled Control Valve Overhaul and will be under Suspension and Steering.
Vette Brakes & Products can rebuild your old valve and warranty it for five years. They can also rebuild it with higher load (55#) spring if you want higher steering effort. Further information on this option is also available at corvettefaq.com; Suspension and Steering under the title: Improved Steering Effort and Feel
