Default Opinions On These Wheels

I want to have a little different look to my Vette after the 396 is installed. My car is yellow with a black stripe. It now has polished Torque Thrust II's. I want a wheel with a black center and machined/polished lip. I've done alot of searching and unless you want to pay BIG$$$ for a custom wheel there aren't many choices. I found these at Discount Tire Direct for $125 ea. They look exactly like the Torque Thrust "M". What do you think?

This is my car

Default OK I'll chime in,

I think your on the right track. Looks period correct but with a modern flair. I give it 9 out of 10.

Bud.

They'll look cool on your car, yellow and black is a good combination, specially if it's brilliant yellow together with satin flat black.

You could also look into a black racing steel wheel, they're lightweight, look cool and tough and are pretty cheap as well.

Great Choice! There's nothing like a yellow car with black center wheels..

Those wheels look good, I couldn't find them on their website who makes them ?

29 reviews on an independent website, while overall rating of Discount Tires Direct was "GOOD" It seems you run into trouble if there is a problem with the wheels, which is a common problem, such as out of round or rim edge wobble etc.

So it seems if the manufacturer sends them good rims and tires there is nothing to worry about. But they don't seem to want to correct any problem with defective wheels.

"WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! Spent $600 on tires and rims, rims are defective and they will not stand behind them. They do not know how to take care of customers. Less than 4 months later and I have had 12 flats, 3 bent rims and they will not stand behind faulty product. "

Will they fit without adapters? And what backspaces are available.

The brand is "REPLICA WHEELS". These wheels in pictures from different websites look EXACTLY like the American Racing Torque Thrust M's. The Torque Thrust M's are much less expensive than the other Torque Thrust series wheels. This leads me to believe they are made by the same manufacturer and badged differently. The same size (17x8, 0 offset, 4.5BS) TT M's in black I've seen range from $183 at Summitt to $250 at Newstalgia. I believe I would be getting the exact same wheels except for the center cap for $125 ea.

If you go to their website (DISCOUNT TIRE) look them up "by size". Search 17x8, 5x4.75 bolt circle. I've never bought from them. I've always used TIRE RACK. But in this case TIRE RACK wants $200 ea for the black TT M's vs $125 ea for the REPLICA's from Discount. Discount also has FREE shipping. I can get the four wheels, (2) 245/45/17 and (2) 255/50/17 KUMHO Ecsta SPT's mounted, balanced and shipped for $972.

The size I'm looking at will not require adapters for my Vette. The size is 17x8, 0 offset, 4.5" backspace.

This is my car

I bet you could get your wheels polished and powder coated for about the same price and know exactly what you got.

You could make your wheels just the way you want them.

Go to a wheel/tire place (someone you know preferably) put the wheel on a balancing machine, spin it, using a green or red scotch bright pad, hold it at the 7 o'clock position and slowly move it in and out applying slight pressure. That will giev you your machine finish look (you can go ove rit with wire wool if you want a finer finish).

Using the same scotch bright pad, you can scuff the spokes, mask and paint anycolor you want....have dont it plenty of times, with the right application will stand up to plenty of abuse.

I thought about that but I want to keep them just to change the look from time to time.

FWIW:

I've purchased Michelin tires, for the BMW 7, from Discount Tire 3 times.

Why? Due to excellent sevice.

Don't know beans about their rims, but dealing directly with them, for tires, here in town has been nothing but a pleasure.

Wife had more than a few flat tires and they always fixed them, including replacing a tire, for free with no hassle at all.
