i have a 80 vette im looking at doing a LT1 swap and i tried the archives search but nothing came up,im agoing to install a 700r trans 1st and then in jan or feb install the lt1,im planning on doing an aftermarket harness to make the swap easy and i looks like if i find an lt1 out of a vette it should drop in a/c compressor and all with no problems, does any one have any info links or pics of the swap, thanks for any help or info

i like the look of the lt1 a looks like a little easyer swap and seams to be alot cheaper considring trans wise it will bolt up to anything, and i have A/C i want to keep and it would cost for brackets

But the ls1 will bolt to anything,350.400.200,700r4 etc...Im runing a 700r4 with mine.
raw, both engines will be a good choice for a swap, LSx or LT. Cost between the two will be the biggest issues as the actual swap is about the same really. Parts availability for both is excellent. Wiring between the two is different but I wouldn't say one was harder than the other. The LSx does hold more power potential for less, but if you're not building for big power than that factor no longer matters.
In general, you already know about the wiring issues. The transmission you're looking at requires a new DS. A 2004R does not and is an OD auto. You need to add an electric fuel pump. Edelbrock offers a nice one that's actually made by Walbro. I have used this one before on a 73 vette we put EFI on. You'll need fuel line fittings for either engine. We have Russel fittings available that slide onto the smooth fuel rail barbs and have 6 AN fittings to connect up to the fuel line. Some other minor issues are there as well but nothing major.
The choice is yours. Either will be a good choice.
i looked at the stickey and looks like i will have to have adapters to make the a/c work on the ls1,and whats is DS?,and what is the differance between the 200 and 700?
thanks for the info

the 200 is a easier swap, but the 700 has a lower first gear 3.06 which helps accelerate off the line better and the overdrive is different between the two.
FIRST GEAR SECOND GEAR THIRD GEAR FOURTH GEAR 700r4
3.06:1 1.63:1 1:1 0.70:1
so either one will give me improvements in take off and looks like the 200r has a better overdrive, other then the price of doing the drive shaft and the differance in gear ratios ,whats the pros and cons of each, and do i get into any problems when i shorten the drive shaft for 700r with vibrating or anything,i dont recall seeing the 200r in anything what was it in?
thanks for any info
