I have to replace mine and a search of the archives turned up the fact that someone said you only have to remove the fan, pulleys and belts to make the change.
That's correct. You need to get all the belts off of the crank pulley and that means fan, water pump pulley, and loosening the accessories to get the belts off.
The crank pulley is easy to get off with just a few bolts holding it on. There is a main balancer bolt int he center that must come out, and then you will need the use of a balancer puller to remove the old balancer.
Upon returning the balancer puller kit, you'll want to pick up a balancer installation kit to put the new balancer back on.
Tip: Lube the installation very well with thread oil before installing the new balancer. You don't want the threads buggering up. Also, install the balancer fully against the crank shoulder. Basically go until it stops. Then, align the rest of the pulleys to the crank pulley, and if you need to shim the crank pulley to get everything lined up right.
TimAT - Great idea to keep the garter spring (I never knew that they were called that!) in. It's always maddening to find out that it popped out because you don't know until you get everything all put back together and it leaks!
