Default Steering Column Help

I have a 77 tilt/tele column and I tore it apart to put upper bearings in it. I put the new bearings in and started to reassemble when I noticed this part was laying in my work area . I cant figure it out. I looked in the parts diagram and could not see it. I PM'D Jim for help and I sure can use everyones help to find exactly where it goes. Thanks

Looks like the shaft tube retaining ring, but its been years since I was in one. I'll see if I can find an exploded view somewhere.

Thanks guys for the quick reply. I am at work now so what you are telling me that the ring will go on the key lock assembly and go in when I reinsert the assembly?

I searched and searched with no luck. I definitely defer to Roger, he has helped me out before!

Yes-just make sure it is not an extra. There was a guy on here awhile back that said that was laying down inside and there was also one already on the lock assembly.I was surprised that 2 of them could fit in at the same time. Here is a pic you can see the ring on the end of the cylinder.

DWnnchs Thank you so much for the picture of where it goes. I really feel dumb. I looked over that tilt head for about an hour last night and could not see a spot for it. You guys are the greatest.
