The guy asks a cam question and you tell him to stroke his motor?
I think with your max compression looking around 9.5:1 you're gonna be hardpressed to get that 400#s though.
I think you are right. I should have just said "you're gonna be hardpressed to get that 400#s" and moved on the the next thread. I have no clue of how to get there from here with a cam swap. The stroker solution was entirely uncalled for and I owe the guy an apology.

Point is, stick to the guy's question. He's obviously thought about his set up, and done some research in to what he needs in a cam. Who knows his circumstances (budget)? You wanna turn his $2500 top-end build into a $5000K overhaul. Don't be a

Stingr69 apoligized already. The low torque cam the OP originally asked about is 243 and 251 duration @ .050. He is looking at buying new heads and a roller cam for an L-48, getting 400 HP and lot's low end torque. That shows a lack of research, as in a 350 that is a high rpm cam, and he was looking for suggestions . I think the advice on the 3.75 crank was dead on to achieve 400 FWHP and low end torque although an expensive one. To the OP here is a link that might help with decisions although if your looking at just a top end swap some of the cam suggestions already posted would be great, just don't expect 400 HP. and great low end torque both out of your combination. 350 HP and good low and midrange torque is realistic.www.ryanscarpage.50megs.com/combos1.html

I wouldn't say a lack of research, maybe a lack of knowledge of cam selection, but thats why he posted the thread. You're right that he won't achieve his goals without a better bottom end, but sometimes you gotta work with what you got.
Rab16, you said that thats your "future" set up, what you should do for a cheap estimation is try a program like desktop dyno. This would let you see how realistic your goals are, and based on what you see, you could make a decision if you'd want to make any other changes (stroke it, flat top pistons, etc.).
Be wise though that those desktop dyno estimations are pretty high. So I would temper your expectations from them.

Reason: Desktop Dyno Disclaimer
I've been following cam choice threads for a while now, I wiped a lobe last july - comp xe 262- and been trying to figure out what to replace it with, I want torqe. I'e done alot of desktop dyno sims on most of the cams suggested here and in recent post. In my setup the xe 262 states 425tq@2000, peaking at 443@3500. max hp is 377@ 5000. I haven't found a cam yet [profile] that has that much torqe without reducing [alot] hp in the low rpms.
383- edel.rpm heads -9.7 c.r. -headers- ect.
Like I said earlier, the point is I need as much advice and suggestions as I can get to keep me from buying the wrong part. Thanks for sticking up for me but I think this is a good time to admit that I'm only seventeen years old, so if I seem ignorant it's because I am. So to say my budget is limited would be an infinite understatement. So I guess what I really need is something to aim for, a setup that has the stats I want, so I can upgrade over time as I get the money.
