It's just a vacuum tree. It might sever as a check valve but I do not know that for sure. Most times a tree is just a nipple for supplying vacuum to a small diameter tube from a large diameter port.

Thanks for the replies...and as I suspected (and was told) matches the above comment...I have dug through books (manuals and parts) and still do not know the "official" name ...I need a replacement and it is aggravating not knowing its name ....Anyone else?.....Thanks,Pete

Thanks Sweethence!....I was wondering now if I need the single or 2 port vacuum fitting?....If you look closer at my pic someone capped off the top of the vacuum fitting and have only a single connection to transmission modulator via the metal line...(I wonder if that was a smog/AIR connection at one time that is capped off now..maybe someone on this message board has a good pic of their '76 and connections,,,,,Thanks,Pete

I see you have a 76, and depending on your options, the things that usually draw vacuum from that fitting are

1. headlight system (check valve required)
2. brake MC Booster (check valve required)
3. the trans fitting you have there (not sure on check valve)
4. EGR equipment (if present not sure about 76 EGR)

the number of ports will depend on your cars specifics

but each of those should have a dedicated port

the AIR system aka smog pump had no tie to the intake port, as it ran off of a dedicated pump of its own

Look to me like you should get an AIM for your year car, a few things look misrouted to me
cheers

Assembly Instruction Manual used by the factory to put cars together. You can pick one up on Ebay or most Vette flea markets.

like the man said factory assembly manual

I recommned that plus the service manual for your year car, and a chevrolet by the numbers, book, as well as the restoring your corvette book.

all are avaibale on ebay. But I got mine form Corvette central, they seem to have the best pricing of the catalogs

also if you call GM and give them your VIN, they will send you a restoration package that has everything about your year car as well as GM licensed vendors and enough info to write your own book!!!!!!

A bunch of us here did that a while back, and its FREE

cheers

One other thing, Pete. Be careful where you pick up an AIM. Many of these are of very poor print, the result of being copied over, and over, and over again.

You can get a "restoration package" at no cost from GM/Chevrolet. Sinply call the Chevy/Geo customer assistance hotline at (800) 222-1020 or 810-696-4800. Have your VIN handy, as they'll ask for it. The contents of this package varies by year. Call now before they start charging!
If your car was originally registered in Canada. you will have to call GM of Canada at (800) 263-3777. GM Canda wants $40.00 plus tax for the restoration package, so try the US number first!

this is a great package, with every specification on the corvette included, I was amazed at the level of detail, a MUST have. and it only took like 3 or 4 days to arrive in the mail. when I did it, they actually sent me the 67 package by mistake, I called them back and 3 days later two 68 packages arrived

I should would give it away, but since its free its kinda hard

I just called and its still free

Cheers
