Default 78 Rocker Panel HELP...

Morning Gents,

Could someone please tell me if there is suppose to be a one inch space at the front of Rocker Panel (towards front tire) when mounted on the car. There is a one inch space at the front of the panel to where the body ends and not sure if this is correct.

I hope this doesn't sound too confussing and if anybody could supply me a close up picture(s) it would be greatly appreciated.

Kindly,
Sniper

I can get a picture(s), but I would prefer to see a few of a stock 78 (non-Pace) so that I can see exactly what is up with these panels.

I have done a few searches on 78's and looked at many pictures, but of course nothing close to showing what I want to see. There was one in particular that showed the end of the rocker panel molding extending an inch past and almost touching the front tire.

Anyway, if by chance someone has a picture or wouldn't mind taking one it would be greatly appreciated.

On my white 79...

On my 78SA...

If it's much shorter than this one possibly someone replaced the rockers with 80-82 rockers which are about 1" shorter than the 79 and earlier.

You're welcome . The 78 panels are about 65 1/4" long just to double check.

This might help you a little in explaining why the rocker molding extends into the wheel well. This is according to NCRS judging.

Cars originally equipped with the 60 series tires had the fender lip trimmed. In this area a small triangular section of the fender was cut away, sometimes allowing the rocker molding to protrude slightly into the wheel area. Often the trimming operation was not neatly done as it was freehand, without jigs or fixtures. Perhaps this is what you saw on the other car however an inch and almost touching the tire

Here is my 78, I measured and it is 65 1/4. This could have been a replacement years ago. I am not the original owner. My car came with 255/60

Thank you very much for not only taking the time to take the pictures, but the explanation of why they are shorter.

First Class...

It was very kind of you both to take the time and effort to explain this to me. To some it might kinda of an odd ball inquiry, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why they didn't fit properly. I just had the 78 painted and ordered new rocker moldings and thought they were incorrect.

Thanks Again...
