Default Carb help please...

Car died, would rotate but won't start. In-line fuel filter was empty and the tank looked low so I threw in a gallon of gas. Pumped the gas, turned the key, won't start. This car has been a daily driver for two years and never had this problem. Carb is Edelbrock 750 barely a year old. Unhooked the hose leading into the carb and cranked the engine, fuel pump working. Flipping the accelerator cable won't throw fuel threw the jets. Cranked while slowly pouring gas into carb turns car over but still nothing coming out of the jets.

Any ideas????

I am not familiar with the Edelbrock Carb. Maybe somebody can chime in. Floats stick alot on Holley Carbs when they get old.

I always preach check the easy stuff first. Did you check the gas filter at the carb.

Yeah, it's a glass in-line filter and it is fine. The fuel makes it to the carb fine, I unhooked the fuel line at the carb and turned it over and fuel came out fine. It's just not making it out of the jets.

Did you tap on the carb body with a wood hammer handle. The float may just be hung up and the shock may free it up. But if that is what it takes to make it run, get a new carb or rebuild that one.

 I'll try that, but it's less than a year old!

If you think the float is stuck, you can hook a clean piece of fuel line to the carb and blow through it. If you can't blow air through then the bowl is full of gas or the float is stuck up. If the bowl was empty it may take quite a bit of cranking to fill it with fuel so I would try starting fluid into the carb to see if the engine catches. If it won't fire on starting fluid then spark may be a problem. The accelerator pump is what gives you the "shot" into the throat of the carb.

Aaaaaahh, I did try to blow through, doesn't work. So, float is stuck up? How do I unstick it?

You can tap lightly on carb with wooden handle or you can take top of carb off and have a peek at it. I think on the edelbrock carb the whole top comes off and the fuel bowl remains with the base but I am not sure, try the light tapping first, works 99% of the time

There's about 11 screws to take the top off. Be real careful with the dinky little clip keys on the linkage levers. Those tiny little thingies are best handled with a needle nose plier.

set your air compressor to about 20/25# and blow through the fuel inlet of the carb. easier than taking it apart.
