AC/Heater door

So I'm rebuilding a 78 vette and I hit a snag on the AC system, the most obvious part escapes me...the front door that opens to allow air to the interior connecting to the dash ducts (see picture). What part opens it? Anyone got a picture? Is it vacuum actuated? If I can't find a part or what it connects to then I'm thinking about just rigging it so that it stays open, other than a little air coming through the vents with the system off does anyone see a problem with this?

The problem is see is called WINTER and also wanting to use the defroster for the windshield

The door is operated via an actuator. On my '72, a "two-way" actuator is used to regulate the door, fed by two air hoses that connect to the console dial switch. Get hold of a vacuum diagram for your car and you will see the routing. Doc Rebuilds has great diagrams.
