I am replacing some wiring harnesses and notice that my car might be missing something of bubba removed it. 1981 owners, do you have a junction block near your battery? I notice some vendors call for hot wire from alternator to junction block to battery.
Yep, supposed to be on the outboard side of the battery box. There is a 12 or 14 ga wire from the battery + term to the block and the one from the alternator
I just looked inside my battery compartment for evidence of a Junction Block and could not even find any holes where it might have been. I read in a thread somewhere that chevy experimented with the wiring in 81 and just want to make sure, you know for NCRS purposes Can anyone post a photo of there 81 battery compartment showing the location of the junction block?
Thanks for the pix. Now I am completely confused. I don’t have the junction block, or evidence that it was ever there like mounting holes. No evidence of repair either. Looking at the assembly manual my car does not even have the hole where the wire enters the battery compartment. I must have the battery charge circuit delete option!
According to Lectric Limited, 80,81 and 82’s with a tape player had this junction block and a separate charging circuit direct from alternator. If your car did not come from the factory with the tape player, no junction block. I guess those eight tracks really sucked the amps. According to Lectric, alternator charges battery though starter cable without tape player option. I learn something every day.
Wow, thats news. Guess it was a noise cancellation thing, feeding the alternator directly to the battery and then distributing total car power from that point would filter the alternator noise out mre that feeding it to the starter first.
my 81 has no junction box. the assembly manual shows one and I have never seen a sign of it. I kept wondering why a 10ga. wire ran from the alternator direct to the starter motor. my idiot light flickers all the time and I have a new alternator that is putting out 14v and have checked my connections several times.
