Default air filter clearance

ive got one of the edelbrock high rise intake manifolds and was wondering if there was a air filter i can use that will clear the stock hood on my stingray. ive got a small block 350 with the hood to match. i had modified one of those complete garbage reusable edelbrock airfilters (triangular or heart shaped whichever) and it still wouldnt fit unless i bent a couple of parts on the top in. ive heard of an airfilter that adapts from the top of the carb and pops out the side somewhere. anone know what im talkin about? or perhaps a good and not too expensive way to solve this?

Which "Hi-rise" manifold are you talking about?

I have a 68 sb, with the Vortec RPM airgap dual plane manifold.
I can close the hood using a drop base filter housing and a 1.5" element.
The top plate of the filter makes contact with the heat insulating layer on the underside of the hood, but as I said, I can close the hood.
It IS restrictive to air flow though (and hp), with my 383.

I have an L88 scoop from Ecklers I will mold onto my existing hood.
I'll be cutting out a hole for air filter clearance in the existing hood, and use a '73 style air filter base to provide the seal for an effective cold air intake.

Still trying to source an air filter base like one of these:

Not sure if this mob can provide a solution with your existing bonnet.....

Evidently you are looking for the B&M Twin Sidedraft air cleaner. Whether it will provide adaquate airflow & fit is another matter.

The factory went to the LT-1 hood for minimum clearance for the high rise intake.

There needs to be at least about 3/4" clearance over the Holley vent tubes.

What year Corvette and what hood? The 73-75 hoods have more clearance than the earlier cars. A small block hood is not equal across all years.

That said, I have a Performer RPM Q-Jet manifold on my 350. Edelbrock says it will not fit a Corvette. : I am using a 14" Moroso Low-Profile Racinbg Air Cleaner with 3" filter and have 3/4" of clearance at the tightest point. Edelbrock bases their recommendations on stock aircleaners.

I can't reach photobucket from here (ship underway) but search for my name and "air cleaners" and you will probably find some pics on CF.

Have a spare L-82 hood I'm guessing from a 78-79 car which is a hair higher than the stock hood for an 80 L-82 would this help?

edelbrock say alot of things wont fit under a corvette hood but thats misleading because when they say that they forget to mention that it when used in conjunction with an edelbrock carburettor. their carbs have a greater measurement from carb base to carb top then others like the demon or holley. when you are talking only an inch or two between fitting an air gap manifold or similar and not being able to at all this can be all the difference, for example...when buying my airgap manifold( vortec) for my 81 it says "will not fit under corvette hood " ...well what do you know , i run a demon 750 and a 3 inch drop base aircleaner and still have a whole inch to play with.

I've got a weiland intake (slightly higher than the eddy performer) and an edelbrock 800 cfm performer carb with a Moroso drop base air cleaner and 3" filter on my 74 smallblock. It's close, but it fits. I still have the eddy triangle air cleaner I used before I changed my engine and I hated it. Especially because I had a timing issue and it melted the foam cleaner which dripped all over the carb. The moroso is really tight around the electric choke, but I'm pulling it for a manual anyway.
