Hello again,,,,,I am trying to find a procedure for testing my gauges (oil, temp, battery) while I have my center console off for resto...I already have a new fuel gauge....Thanks,Pete
General test for most gauges is to ground the sensor wire for oil, temp and the gauge should Peg right, remove the ground and it should peg left. Those sensors are just a variable resistance to ground and most of them are about 60 to 70 ohms to ground for center gauge reading.
"Battery" is either going to me a Volt Meter and all you have to do is turn on the key, it should read battery voltage. If not its an AMP meter and testing it is a little tricky. The meter itseff can be tested with a light bulb and 9 volt battery, connect all 3 in series and the meter will peg one way or the other, switch polarity and it will peg the other way.
That will tell you if they work, Calibration and accuricy is annother matter
I have a PDF file I downloaded that I can e-mail if you would like with the whole procedure laid out. Shoot me a PM with you e-mail and I'll send it. I used this procedure to go through the small gauges on my 76.
