Default Need Lock Help!!! ('73)

My drivers side door is locked and I cant seem to get it unlocked. I try to unlock the car with the key on the outside and it feels like I turn the lock all the way, but it is still locked. I go from the passenger side to unlock the car and the **** will on turn parallel to the ground. It wont completely turn over to unlock. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Any ideas of what to do?

The tab on the back of the cylinder may be bent or the arm on the latch assembly may be bent and you are just not getting full contact.

At the same time, you might consider pulling the entire latch assembly, cleaning it, lubing it up, and checking to make sure it all functions properly before putting it back in.

I had a similar situation on both doors at the same time. A quick cleaning and adjustment worked a little bit on one side, but I ended up replacing them and adjusting both with new parts and they both work great now.

Oh well you didn't mention you couldn't even get the door open from the inside, either that or I missed it.

Anyway, get a flashlight, a long flathead screw driver, and pull the door panel back a bit at the rear of the door.

Peer down in with the flashlight and look for the tab that the arrow points to. Get the screw driver on that tab, and push hard. It'll open right up if you get a good solid push on that tab.

Your screw driver may slip off, so be patient if it takes a few tries.
