Shift lever question

I have '77 L82. Need to remove transmission. Started with shift lever. Got ****, T-lever, console trim and boot all off. I removed the one bolt that goes front to rear thinking lever will then just slide up, but it doesn't come. Haynes manual doesn't explain well. Anybody?

The shifter is bolted to the crossmember under the car.

Go below, unhook the shift linkage from the tranny, and the shifter mount from the crossmember. Pull everything out from the bottom in one piece.
