Heard varying opinions on mufflers, Flowmaster vs Magnaflow. I've got a 77 L-48 with shorty headers, 2 1/2 pipes and I'm looking for a deep throaty type sound but don't want to go deaf on the inside. Any opinions out there?

Deep and throaty = Magnaflows
Loud and resonating = Flowmasters
I have had both. My ears prefer Magnas no question. Others prefer Flows. You really need to listen to both to know what you'll like because it's ALL subjective.
i got flows on this 76 i am working on and to be honest i am real disappointed in the sound - cant explain it but like Durango says - resonating and maybe a little high pitched. Flows really sound their best when they are further towards the engine to mid way in the system - not at the very back. they are loud, too.
i would definately not use flows on the vette! In fact, the owner wants me to fix up his El Camino and wants flows put on it, so i am going to take the flows of the 76 and put them on the el camino, and i will have him order magnaflows and put them on the 76! Make sense?
I prefer the more mellow sound of a Turbo Muffler as well, we went Dynomax Turbos and it sounds great IMHO, added a cross pipe and it really smoothed the sound out.
Thanks for the reply's. I think I'm gonna try the Magnaflows. I was leaning towards the chambered exhaust system through Ecklers but I can't find anyone who has every installed them on a 77. Most everyone that I read about or talk to favor either the Magnaflow or Flowmaster set up and you're right it's all about personal preference and the sound you're going for.
