Default Oil Pan

I need to replace the oil pan on my '76 L-48. The Vette catalogs are asking around $125 for a pan. Jeg's lists standard SB Chevy pans for under $50. Does my Vette need a special size pan, or does it use a standard pan?

Default oil pan

Mark, Ithink the only difference is your dipstick is on the drivers side and most of the cheap ones are on the passenger side. I really don't think it matters.

I bought a chrome pan from Summit once and after comparing it to the original pan i sent it back. The original just looked so much better in the corners/bends. So i just brazed up a small nick that looked to be a hole in the pan and put it back on. BTW Trickflow has some real nice i piece gaskets - much better than getting sealer in my hair on installation.
Yes u will need a drivers dipstick but most ads will list which side its on. My stock pan has a cover over the sump that helps stop the oil splash - this pan came with my GM crate motor and maybe availible through GMpartsdirect.com.
Now there are some 6 quart pans availible from GM that were made for the corvette but again u will need the left hand dipstick.

Good luck,
cardo0

I'd recommend a Corvette specific pan so you don't run into modifications as swapping dipsticks, oil pump pickups or having interference with your power steering.
