Default Holley 4160 Problems

Hi I just installed and Edelbrock Performer Intake and a Holley 4160 Carb on my 75 L-82 Vette. I am having a few problems figuring it all out. How do I hook up the throttle cable. I can not seem to get it line up right using the old bracket off the Rochester and then there is no where to hook the cable onto and the instructions do not have any information on this. Also when using this carb where would I hook up my PCV Valve. It only has one large vacuum port and I have the brakes hooked to that and the manual says not to put a T in that line. And does it matter which valve cover the PCV valve goes in? Also the intake has a spot for the temperature sensor on the intake manifold, is it okay to move it down there and by a new water neck to go over the thermostat that does not have the hole for the temp sensor or would I bet better off finding a plug for the manifold?

For the brake booster line, there is a port on the back of the carb with a screw in plug, the plug needs to be removed with a big solid flat tip, mine was really stuck in there. You should prbably remove the carb to do this, no way it's gonna come out on the car. then a brass adatper can be JB welded into the port after you grind off the thread on the adapter so it will slide in, move the booster to the back like stock and move the pvc/vac canistor back to the front like stock. the Adapter should be 3/8in i think. Pick your adapter while keeping rear clearance issues in mind,, for length, mine just cleared the manifold vac valve sticking out of the rear of the manifold.I had to cheat the throttle jacket in the bracket, the end connector fits onto the carbs throttle linkage ball stud on mine. PCV valve location can be either, doesn't matter. Can't help on the temp sensor.

This is a picture of the stock carb, from the front, you can see the single installed main vac fitting on it from holley. On the back, on the same lower plate there is a round hole in the same location as the front,, inside this hole, about 3/4" into it there should be a screwed in plug. you have to look into the hole to see it.

Your Q-jet throttle bracket won't fit the holley carb base plate
different bolt pattern width. The 4160 square bore carb has a tube
coming off the back thats for the power brake booster. The big
threaded hole in the back of your new performer manifold you can
put the vacuum line for the modulator valve there. I think a 75 had a turbo 350 trans not sure, if so it should have a kick down cable that mounts along with the throttle cable left side of carb. Lets see big blocks had the pcv on the drivers side valve cover but believe I have seen small blocks with it on passenger or driver side, anyway the pcv valve runs up to the bottom side of your air cleaner base. You can block the front threaded water passage off use what you have or buy a different neck its your choice.

4165 holley
Interesting tube for the power brake booster is coming off the front,
rear fuel pump must be in the way with that style fuel bowl.

The front one is for the charcol canister gulp line. There is a hole in the base plate rear that is pluged with a large taped screwed in plug. You need a new, large flat tip to remove it, it is "in there". (I used a new 12" long square shaft klien, had to dremel the sides of the head to make it fit).. then a 3/8" brass hose fitting with the threads ground off, and some JBs weld and now you got two 3/8" vacume ports instead of just one.

Can you send pics? I'm looking at mine (it's off the car right now) and I don't see any plug that can be unscrewed

check it out,, this is the rear of the carb:

The plug is locatesd about an inch inside the cast tube the brass fitting is sticking out of. The carb must be removed the remove the plug. It is in there. the hardest flat tip screw I have ever removed, no exageration.

Dante7 do you have to have two 3/8 vacuum sources, I just have couple 4150 DP lying around I don't think a 4160 even has a place up front on the base plate for a 3/8 tube. Whats comical, now that I know what that front tube on that 4165 is for, holley knows after the mid 60s about every car made had power brakes yet they put the front tube on for a charcol canister then don't install one on the back for power brakes. Damn I had two 4175s vacuum secondary version I put on two different pickups I cant remember adding any tubes on back for the brakes.
