Can anyone give me some advice on what plug wires to get. I recently ordered a set from summit racing but they are designed to be routed the stock way. The only problem is I am missing the brackets and stuff to do that and don't really have a clue where they actually go. So I am going to head over to autozone tomorrow afternoon to pick up just a regular set that goes over the valve covers. What model car had that type of setup so I can just walk in and pick them and not have to describe what i want and get dumb looks for 20 minutes.
you can order "over the top" plug wires to fit your vette. Moroso, Mallory, Taylor, Accell, MSD to name a few all have them. I'd go with heavier than stock wires (8mm or greater). you can get looms and wire separators for them too.
A think a lot of your decision depends on whether or not you want to keep your car looking original. If you do, you'll need all the original ignition shielding with the wires running down the sides of the rear of the engine and then forward to their respective plug. Most Vette vendors have schematics by year. If you don't care about originality, anything goes.
MSD cut to fits with factory routing. All clipc brackets etc. are readily available from the vendors. Use '74+ grommets in the brackets so the big 8mm wires will fit. Some massaging with a dremel is needed for the '74+ grommets to fit into the upper brackets...
If your going to go over the top, which I would recomend btw, for ease of installation and maintainence, the only way to do it effectively is to remove the smog mainfold, the small tubes that bolt to the exhaust manifold. then go with staraght boots at the plugs and center looms to keep everything up off of the manifolds. I made my own, but it can be a PITA, try a stock autolight set for a 77 camaro if your running an HEI or for a 74 if points,, probably crosses to the same set BTW. I used a little screw to bolt the clamps to the valve covers, think it turned out kinda nice. C.
btw, if your going to make your own wires, get yourself a big tube of electrical grease, and put it on the wire jacket to make sliding the boots back and forth possible, otherwise it will be a darn near impossible.

I would not use Autozone house brand wires to tie knots with. I have had horrible luck with them. If you must buy there, get the Bosch wires. I would go across the street to Advance or O'Rieleys and get genuine Delco wires. Get a set for the same year truck as your car and they should route over the top. I have also had great luck with Moroso Blue Max pre-cut wires. I usually get them from Summit.
