Default oil pan

Just wondering as I put together my order list for a topend build. Can anybody tell me if I can drop the oil pan without too much trouble in a 69 small block? I am deciding to either replace the whole gasket or as I do the top end just replace the seal on the timing cover. I would like to put in a whole new gasket if the pan has the clearance. The car is in storage so I can't go and crawl underneath right now to see. Thanks for any experience in this area shared!!!

If you have oil weepage I would take the time to replace the oil pan gasket with a one piece Fel Pro gasket. You will have to remove the steering relay rod to allow the pan to drop straight down. You can rent the proper tools at Autozone, Schucks/Checker etc. Clean the block and pan mating surfaces area well with solvent and follow the Fel Pro directions.

It's not hard at all. Remove the bolts that hold the idler arm to the frame, drop the suspension down, and there is room to slide the pan out.

When re-installing, use a Fel-Pro one piece oil pan gasket. They even come with cool screw in guides that support the gasket and pan while you get your bolts started.

Default I don't think you meant to say "drop the suspension...

Unbolt the idler arm side, then drop that side of the steering linkage down, and then you can slide out the oil pan.

Sounds good. I fiqured their would be some clearance issues but nothing that cannot be done on blocks it sounds. I did really want to put in that fel pro one piece while the timing cover was off.
Thanks again, my winter order is going in!!!!
