Default Bolts for pulling engine

I will be pulling my engine this weekend. Can anyone tell me the size bolts to use for attaching the chain to the heads? I also need to get bolts for attaching the engine to a stand. Does anyone know the size for these as well?

I plan to pull the trans with the engine. Is it typical to pull it as one unit and then separate the trans will the engine is suspended on the hoist? I don't see any other way to do it.

Thanks for your assistance.

For attaching the chains to the heads, I just used the intake bolts and attached the chain to opposite corners of the block.

For the engine stand, it is 3/8-16. I used 3" bolts with a large washer and it worked perfect.

Thanks.

Any suggestions on pulling the trans?

If you pull the engine and trans together, once out, lower to the floor or some support for the trans and then unbolt it.

I would be sure to get grade 8 bolts for the engine stand. There is a lot of force with the motor hanging off the stand.

If you are running an automatic, drain the transmission before you pull it... if the tail shaft slides out it'll dump its contents all over the place.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a 4 speed (ST10). Will it dump it oil?
