I'm installing a set of Hooker side pipes and need a little more clearance for the steering box. I searched and saw that most folks just ding or dimple the tube. Does whacking at it with a hammer damage the chrome? What's the best way to do this?
There is no easy way to do this and yes it will probably damage the chrome.
The bolt will not reverse and it’s about the only solution there is. It only takes a little ding and you need to mark it for a one strike deal. There is a chance the chrome will not pop, but it probably will.
We like to use the Headman headers HED-68306 sold by Summit. They are ceramic coated and to not discolor, plus when you ding them they don’t seem to pop.
