Default SBC Header and oil filter clerance problems.

In My 70 vette with a small block.... I had Ceramic coated headers put on and when i just went to change the oil i couldn't totally unscrew it to come out because it hits the header.. I think i can cut it off, but what can i replace it with? Do they make a "low profile" oil filter thats alot shorter?? I used Headman headers, not an unknown off brand, so maybe this is a common problem? Thank You!

Are you using the 1 qt filter or the 1/2 qt filter? I see that problem with the 1 qt but the 1/2 seem to come off OK.

Yep, small block oil filters come long and short. Just ask the Napa counter person for the short style or look through the filter catalog at your parts house for a later year car with a 350 engine, you should be able to find a short one pretty easy.

This is why someone like me needs this great forum. I had no idea oil filters came in different sizes!. I did have on a Moroso long racing oil filter. I did some internet research and found that Fram PH-30 is only 4 inches tall and should fit, and my local parts store, even Walmart has it, so no need to grossly overpay at the local speed shop..

I've using the Fram PH-5 on my small block. It's a longer version of the PH-30 and I don't have any clearance problems. I'm using Hooker Super Comp Ceramic Coated Headers on my '74.

Don't buy the junk Fram filters....use the Wallmart brand they are actually made by AC Delco!
