I wonder, does this spring look 'sprung' to anyone, does it look too flat? This is the only Vette I have ever ridden in but it seems the rearend has nearly no give to it at all. Thought it was the shocks so replaced them with some SensaTracs and not sure there was any improvement in the ride. I just can't believe that $90 Bilsteins would make the ride an better but maybe it will. This spring, btw, is the same width end to end and I have no idea how long it has been on the car or what it is rated at. I think what I am looking for is a shock that will allow the tires to go down and meet the road when they find a bad spot, is there such a thing? The rearend sits about right for me, at about 28 3/4 inches to center of fender opening. Thanks.
It the car is sitting at a reasonable stance then I would say the spring looks to be in good shape. Regarding shocks, I think a number of us running mono springs would recommend Bilstein Sports.
The spring could be a very high-rate unit, or it could have been adversely affected by the unshielded exhaust pipes if they're too close.
I wonder then how close is too close, and should the exhaust be wrapped or should shields be installed to protect the spring (or is it too late, don't think there is anyway to tell this )...................
The end goal is that you want the half shafts to be evenly horizontal when the car is settled into it's suspension. Your half shafts look fine. I think on rough terrain when the weight of the car is going down hard and back up, is the only time I would worry about contact. If heat is the issue, maybe get some fiberglass cloth wraps or tape to wrap around the exhaust where it comes the closest to the spring, although that far back I don't think heat would be a huge issue.

VB&P says 3" of separation at a minimum. Installing a metal heat shield or wrapping the pipes isn't a bad idea anyway, but it's critical if the exhaust is going to be closer to the spring rather than further away.
