Default T56 Crossmember

I bought a Viper tranny from a member of the forum here. So as not to re-invent the wheel I will be fabricating up the crossmember so I will have extra ones to use in my upcoming projects. It also has an adapter plate that goes between the tranny and bellhousing. This too will be duplicated. I was just seeing if any other forum members would like to have these pieces fabricated for their 6 spd projects. Please let me know if you are interested in the pieces as this work will be going to the fab shop late next week. The crossmember has the stock mounting holes to the frame and the factory size exhaust tubes in it so you can run the exhaust pipes out like it came from the factory. Thanks for looking, houstonvett

How much would we be talking? I was getting ready to do a 700r4 conv, but I'd really like a 6 speed

Will be getting the estimate for the pieces by weeks end cduemig. I will post some pics tommorrow of the crossmember that will be the template. I have a source for T56s that come out of the Dodge SRT trucks. The SRTs have the same 10 cylinder engine that the Viper uses and I just need to make sure about the shifter location on the tranny to make sure it will fit in a C3, houstonvett

This is just a suggestion, but if I were designing a custom crossmember I would make it look similar to the 700R4 crossmember from Bow Tie Overdrives. As you can see in the pic below, the stock exhaust holes come fairly close to the tailshaft and require an extra bend in the exhaust. With the BTO crossmember you can run the exhaust straighter from whatever header/manifold you choose to use. I THINK, although I am not certain, that the BTO 700R4 crossmember will work with a T56. I bought a shortened driveshaft from a car that had a 700R4 trans and the shaft fit into my T56-equipped frame exactly.

If you get a price that is less than the $200 or so for the BTO crossmember I might be interested in buying one. Keep us posted.

My exhaust BARELY fits the holes and it rattles a little on the sides of the crossmember...

Side exhaust fixes that problem.

Yah well, I'm a total klutz and I'm trying to save my legs the torment... I also (don't kill me here) don't really like the sidepipes look on the 74 Vette... My opinion of course.

The crossmember is a simple design which should be all that you need to put the Viper T56 in. I will be getting the price hopefully very soon to have the guy fabricated for those that are interested, houstonvett

Would it be possible to just get the dimensions for that center piece? I can scare up an old removable crossmember...

Plenty-o-time...right now I'm just building knowledge for the manual transmission install (though I did go ahead and install the manual pedals while I had all of that junk apart). Thanks for the help.

I have measured the guy for you Batman but as you can see from the pics of the Xmember the center piece starts out under the exhaust outlet. Will you need all of the dimensions of the Xmember as I am not sure if I give you the length of the center piece it will do much good if you don't weld it to the same spot on the exhaust outlet on my Xmember. Let me know and I can probably make up a AutoCad drawing of the entire piece so you can have all of the measurements you might need, houstonvett

I have a race T56 built by GForce viper core, they repatterned my bell housing so it would except a T56, and used a McLeod offset shifter so the shifter was left in its original position. The cross member was modified to avoid having big bends in the exhaust and since im running 3 1/2" exhaust it wouldnt of fit through the holes so the headers would fit.

I saw a web page, ill try and find it, GForce sold a bunch of different cross members, some in pieces to be assembled for custom applications, very similar to what I have.
