If your heads have accessory holes I'd go that route. Otherwise it's a bracket made by hooker and others to mount the alt off the header bolts. Summit has them.

Rare, but some aftermarket heads have a left and right side....holes for the bracket. Check to make sure you dont have the bracket holes pointed at the firewall.

The 68 did not have bolt holes on the heads for alternator mounts. So on your 383 you could buy a stock type bracket that will bolt to the heads.
Also, Summit or jegs sells a 3 piece setup specifically for headers that bolts to the front 2 drivers side header bolts. There's another piece that bolts to that that alllows adjustment front to back for the alternator. An arm bolts to one of the water pump bolts then to the alternator to tighten the belt.

I used the header bracket from Hooker and the stock arm from the water pump. Seems to work well, though a bracket that bolts to the head might be sturdier

Default If you holes in the head....

Get Alternator Bracket casting number
3951337.
There's one on ebay motors right now for 15 bucks (total, including shipping), that's almost as good a deal as I got...mine cost 5 bucks at the junkyard. Search by the casting number.

Since my heads had holes in them, that's what I put on my 68.

Thanks for posting this info.....wasn't aware of this bracket before. Since I am now using aftermarket heads(Brodix IK200 to be exact) this is the route I'll be going
