Anouther project has got out of hand. Went to have windshield moldings polished and now have windshield out and will replace it. What does everyone think about int dye my dashpad is black but looks kind of old the shine is gone although I dont think they had much shine when they were new. Now is the time to dye it but not sure.
go for it...I dyed my half my interior parts, and compared to the undyed parts, the difference is drastic. Im going to dye the rest of the peices soon. I say do it...if you do it right, you won't regret it...everyone else will notice the difference too.
I concur with the others.
Do it!
Dyeing is one of the easiest and satisfying things you can do to the interior pieces. Sfter years of using SEM dyes I'm still amazed at the ease and quickness of the process. Spray, wait two minutes and install!
The only problems you might have are:
1. Armor All - the evil quick shine that won't come off. You'll know it if you don't get it all off.
2. High humidity - dyes seem to blush easier than modern paints. Kinda like laquers used to do.
Yup! Sure looks nice when you're done. The dye just sprays on like paint. (probably is just paint). I did my ebrake console, seat backs, quarter panels, ceiling panels, t-top panels, and some other pieces. They look great. And, after several months they still look great. :)
It's an easy, cheap project that pays off big in results. I redyed all of my interior except for the seat covers and door panels (they were new). It came out great and didn't take that long to do. If you want to see the results go to my website in my signature. Before you dye the parts you should clean them thoroughly with a rag dampened (not wet) with lacquer thinner. This will remove all the dirt and grease. Then coat the pieces with light coats of the dye. If you try to spray too heavily you will fill in the leather "grain" and it won't look right. It's better to use multiple light coats than one heavy coat. If you have an area that is prone to wear you can get a clear coat to go on top of the color and protect it. Good luck.

Thanks for the input looks like I will be dyeing. How many of you used clear I will be dyeing every thing but the seats so there wont be any areas with heavy were. Also the color is black so I wonder if I can just go to the local paint store.

This is an excellent product. I do not own shares....It is paint but designed to adheer to vinyl. An upholstery shop would probably tell you where to get black vinyl paint.
How does dye work on tired old seat covers? I was thinking about a new set of covers, but if you guys think dye would bring them back to life I'd give it a shot. Let me know what your experience is with dyed seat covers. Thanks.
This is a seat from a 91 Turbo Chevy Sprint. It used to be grey but I dyed it black. This is the first coat, and I worked it in with an old toothbrush. They dye was from Plastic-Kote.
Forget dye. It dulls, fades, wears off easily, and changes the texture of the vinyl -even the best products in my experience. And really you are not actually "dyeing" your interior, you are spraying a coat of laquer paint on it. I finally got tired of re-dyeing and touching up, - and replaced my interior panels (including the dash) with quality aftermarket panels one at a time as money would allow. Worth every penny, and it smells new too. With all due respect to other opinions on this topic, I hope you will re-cover, or replace, the dash on your beautiful car. Kind regards.

I did mine when the windshield was out as well. Perfect time for it. Just make sure you clean it up really well from all the years of built up vinyl dressing and other gummy stuff like I had on mine.... I used Krud Kutter and Prep-All (wax & grease remover).
