Buying a Canadian C3
From my search and experience finding a C-3, the cars in Cananda are worth the trip and looking at, I looked at several very nice C-3 cars in canada before I found mine in St. Albert Canada from the 3rd owner. The car had 53K orginal miles and was stored every winter, the frame looks like new, it is one of the main reasons I bought the car, not to mention it is an early build numbers matching 71 LT-1.
I also contacted George Zapora @ (Vintage Specialist) at 905-644-4060 and got all of the orginal GM of Cananda info regarding my car, where it was originally sold from, options it came with, etc, etc....this is a great service and you some great info on your car.
I also purchased this car at a very good price as the dollar conversion really helps.
It cost me $150 to broker the car across the US/Canadian border. All cars that were originally built in the US and exported to Canada, that are over 25 years old, are now exempt from any import/export taxes. I did have to pay state tax on the purchase once I registered the car in Wisconsin, but you have to do that on every car purchase here, the trip to canada was really worth it for me.....I would recommend it!!
I brought it with me when I moved to the States...didn't have any problems crossing the border with it.
.but I did have to have a state inspection and pay the state taxes on it.
Since it wasn't changed atall in Canada, didn't have any problem passing the inspection.
