I know that mufflers have been discussed quite a bit here. But have a specific question related to the unique needs of a 73. I need opinions on mufflers that will fit a 73 using the stock 73 exhaust tips. (The 73 had the exhaust centered in the exhaust tip while the 70-72 had the exhaust offset to the outside part of the exhaust tip.) Most mufflers I have seen require the use of the 70-72 tips.
Tom, I believe Corvette Central has those "special year" mufflers. Especially for like '73, '74 & '75.
I have seen the original factory mufflers, but want something with better sound (and hopefuly performance). 74 and 75 just used the standard down turned tips due to the rubber rear bumpers.
Had been leaning to chambered pipes and may end up going that way if nothing else is available.
Tom73, When I bought chamber exhaust for my 73 from Mid America I had to order 71-72 tips for them. Make sure you check the tip requirements before buying. I thought the chambered exhaust were to loud so I've switched to Dynomax mufflers and still had to use the 71-72 tips.

Tom, I've got the 73-style tips and factory Off Road repo mufflers from Allen's. These are the closest things I know of that look right and sound like the 63-68 factory N11 muffler, although the higher compression on those engines defintely made them sound better and a little louder. The 73 style mufflers and tips should always be used even on a 70-72 because they are larger and flow better. Don't know how loud you want to go, and these would defintely not be considered loud, but they are louder than stock. Like all of Allen's stuff, they look and fit perfect.
Check out the Magna Flows, offset in center out. Some yahoo had changed mine to the earlier tips or blanks,and set them to the inside(you said outside). The Magna Flows were a pain to mount with the spare carrier in and leave clearance to open. The extra inch to the outside would have been perfect, and there is more than enough room. They sound bitchen' and are supposed to out flow the Dynomax. You really don't want chambered, they are restrictive,(rob HP) to loud and just look cheap. I have a set of 2 1/2" header mount chambered for a 73 from MAD I'll give you (for shipping) if you just have to go that route.
I have Magna Flow's part #111226. The shop that did the work did a great job. I have the stock tips. MF maintains they flow better than the others, but anyone selling a product isn't going say the other guy has better stuff. It is a straight through design so they probably do flow better. I wanted a muffler that sounded gutsy. Now that I have the MF's, I wish I had gotten the Flowmasters. They are not as loud. MF's are a bit louder than I wanted. I heard them on a Dodge truck with the cat back set up and it was great. I avoid starting my car before 9:00 on weekends as a courtesy to my neighbors. Driving a couple hours at highway speed gets a bit old. When I was 16 they probably wouldn't have been loud enough. Just my opinion. Everybody's got one.
I've got the delta 50's on mine, the tips will fit fine with a little welding to offset them slightly to the outside, at least that's what my muffler shop did to center them up. The biggest drawback tot eh Delta 50's is that they are long mufflers so they are hard to tuck up underneath as well as the stock mufflers did. They are a great pick as far as a semi loud muffler that you can still have a conversation with while cruising down the highway and still be a performance muffler.
